Black Medicine Iced Coffee started as a hobby in 2010. My original goal was simply to find a reliable way to serve a great cup of coffee. There are so many ways you can mess it up. Each step along the way, from farm to cup, offers multiple opportunities to make mistakes. I thought that if I could get every step right in the process that I could come up with a product that people would appreciate for being great tasting as well as easy to consume. Coming up with a good recipe is a start, but the next difficulty is designing a process that will scale up to high volumes. I ended up having to design custom equipment to make it efficient. Although most bottlers of beverages use co-packers to handle high volumes, this is not possible with coffee that has a limited shelf life, so we ultimately had to build our own bottling line.
