Dr. Akporiaye is Professor Emeritus of the University of Arizona. He was a tenured Full Professor in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology in the College of Medicine and served as Department Chairman from 2004-2008. He also was the Director of the Immunobiology Program at the Arizona Cancer Center. During his tenure, he received more than 5.5 million dollars in competitive awards to further his research, including his study of Alpha-TEA. In 2008, Dr. Akporiaye joined the Robert W. Franz Cancer Research Center in the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute in Portland, Oregon as Professor and Chief of the Laboratory of Tumor Immunology and Therapeutics. This move was driven by his desire to take α-TEA from the bench to the clinic with nationally renowned scientists and physicians dedicated to translating basic research findings from the bench to the clinic for the benefit of cancer patients.
