The Henry Luce Foundation is a non-profit organization that aims to strengthen international understanding, and foster innovation and leadership in academic, policy, religious and art communities. It has supported museums, colleges and universities, research institutes, seminaries and divinity schools, media organizations, and other non-governmental organizations across the United States and around the world. Since its first grant of $1,500 to Yenching University in 1936, the Henry Luce Foundation has awarded more than 5800 grants totaling over $1 billion. Its grantmaking programs include American Art; East Asia; Luce Scholars; Theology; Higher Education and the Henry R. Luce Professorships; the Henry R. Luce Initiative on Religion in International Affairs; Public Policy and the Environment; and the Clare Boothe Luce Program for women in science, mathematics, and engineering.
