Hansen is a Master of Science in business from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). He has held several distinguished positions in a long business career, such as CFO and acting CEO of Statoil, and CEO of Aker Kværner. Hansen currently chairs the boards of Harding AS, Troms Kraft AS, World Championship Biathlon 2016, Norsun AS, Gjensidige Forsikring ASA, Hotell og Restauranthuset Continental, Core Energy AS and AIM Norway SF, and he is a board member in Sissener AS and the Fram Museum.
