In 1985, Mr. Thornton was the 23rd employee and Vice President of Finance and Operations for Aldus Corporation taking the company public through Alex Brown & Sons in 1987. In addition, he established the European operations for Aldus Corporation and was a member of the Board of Directors for Aldus Europe. During the early 90's, Mr. Thornton was an adjunct professor of International Finance at Seattle University and lectured throughout the United States on international financial issues such as joint venture development, channel distribution and currency management. From 1997 to 1999, he was CEO for Lifespex Corporation, a startup bio-photonics company in Kirkland, Washington that included Hoya Corporation, Johnson & Johnson Ventures and Vanguard Venture Partners as investors.
