Muranaka Medical Instruments Co., Ltd. was founded as a family-owned medical distributor in 1903. The company grew quickly after World War II, and developed special capabilities in neurosurgical supplies. Building on that strong foundation, the third generation of Muranaka’s developed the firm into a diversified distributor, while maintaining core strengths in surgical supplies, instrumentation and disposables. Especially strong ties were developed with German instrument manufacturers. The 1970’s and 1980’s witnessed the emergence of new strengths in greater importing capabilities, and tighter control and expansion of the dealer network. The 1990’s have continued that growth, with the development of Sales Promotion and Hospital Turnkey Divisions. The fourth generation of the Muranaka family is taking over a profitable company, the largest and strongest of its kind in Japan.
