Shuichi Hiraoka was born in 1970 in Tokyo, Japan. While at the Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT), he majored in Chemistry and Biotechnology and went on to obtain a M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry. He then pursued his Ph.D. with Tomoya Kitazume at TIT and a post-doctoral appointment with Makoto Fujita at Institute of Molecular Science. He is currently the Professor at the University of Tokyo.
