Stephen F. Betz (Vice President, Biology) is a Founder of Crinetics Pharmaceuticals. He earned his Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he studied protein structure and stability. He pursued postdoctoral studies in the laboratory of William DeGrado at the DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company where he focused on protein engineering and de novo design. He moved to pharmaceutical discovery in the Research NMR Group at Abbott Laboratories, working on protein structure, structure-guided drug design, assay development, and compound screening in several different therapeutic areas. Most recently, he was Director of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Neurocrine Biosciences working on the discovery and development of GnRH receptor antagonists and nonpeptide modulators of other endocrine targets.
